If you began using this CD-ROM without loading ArcView onto your hard drive and you do not already have ArcView, you will need to load the software before you can use the interactive query.

Introduction

The fire hazard model allows a user to determine the risk of fire for specific locations in the East Bay Hills. In the model, fire hazard information is specified to a one block street level. By locating a particular street address within the fire hazard model, homeowners are able to evaluate the risk to their property from vegetational fuel, the risk to their home from structural fuel, and the combined risk effect from both fuel types.

ArcView Version1.0

Begin by opening one of the following queries:
qrstrhaz.av This query allows you to determine the structural fuel fire hazard to your neighborhood block.
qrveghz.av This query allows you to determine the vegetational fuel fire hazard to your neighborhood block.
qrtothz.av This query allows you to determine the combined risk effect from both fuel types.

Next use the zoom in tool to center your neighborhood on the screen.
Click the arrow next to Streets in the QR_____.AV window, drag cursor to Table in the Streets menu. The Streets table will open onto your screen.
Enter your address in the Streets dialog box exactly as follows (be careful to include all the spaces. _ equals one space):

(_name cn 'Street Name'_)_and_(_fromadd_<=_number_)_and_(_toadd_>= _number_)

for example:
( name cn 'Dwight Way' ) and (fromadd <= 2400 ) and ( toadd _>= 2400 )

Suggestions for ArcView Version 1.0 Users

Go through the ArcView Version 1.0 tutorial before you begin.

Be patient. If you have less than a 16 megabyte RAM, Pentium system, the rendering of geographic information will be slow.

If you are having problems, check the exact spacing of your entries. This program is extremely sensitive to spacing cues (remember, _ equals one space).

ArcView Version 2.1

Begin by opening one of the following queries:

qrstrhzx.apr This query allows you to determine the structural fuel fire hazard of your neighborhood block.
qrveghzx.apr This query allows you to determine the vegetational fuel fire hazard of your neighborhood block.
qrtothzx.apr This query allows you to determine the combined risk effect from both fuel types.

You can use any menu item from the customized menu bar, such as, Zoom To Neighbourhood which allows you to view any neighbourhood up close, or Location Query which starts the address querying process.
Next, find your street name in the street dialog box and enter your street number.
